Whoever said “Winner, winner, chicken dinner!” must have just finished a meal at Babe’s Chicken Dinner House. You see, it is much more of an experience than a meal.
This Fort Worth, TX chain serves delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. It is also one of the very best places to dine in the Fort Worth area with kids. And, on top of all that, it is one of the best values you can find for feeding a hungry family.
If you are visiting Fort Worth and only have time for one meal, this should be at the top of your list.
No Menu at Babe’s
Babe’s Chicken Dinner House is a casual, kid-friendly restaurant chain. They serve chicken and other Southern comfort dishes in a family-style format.
The unique thing about Babe’s is that there is no menu. Instead, each person gets their choice of meat with a standard collection of side dishes. And as you might imagine, chicken is the star of the show.
At the original Babe’s location, you can choose one of two meat options: fried chicken or chicken fried steak. The other locations, however, offer more choices of meats.
The Burleson and Arlington locations, for example, offer 5-6 meat choices. These include chicken strips, smoked chicken, and fried catfish.
Side dishes include salad, buttermilk biscuits, corn casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. These come with every meal. They are brought to your table in large bowls to be shared by the entire table.
Additionally, they offer a selection of pies and other Southern desserts.
One reason why Babe’s is a great option for families is because portion sizes are huge. The meat is served on platters, making it easy for everyone at your table to share the different meat selections.
I recommend each person at the table order a different meat. Then you can all share and sample a wider variety of the meat options.
Excluding the meat, everything brought to your table is all-you-can-eat. Your waitress will refill the side dishes as many times as you would like.
The large portion sizes and refillable side dishes makes this the perfect restaurant for hungry families and big eaters. Unfortunately, because of the family style service, the meat and biscuits are the only things you are allowed to take home in a doggy bag.
The Taste of Babe’s
All of the food at Babe’s is delicious! It is genuine Southern cooking at its finest. It tastes like eating Sunday lunch at your grandma’s kitchen table.
Babe’s is one of those places where you should go in starving because you will come out miserably full! I find it almost impossible to not eat too much when we go to Babe’s. It is just that good!
There are nine different Babe’s locations around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Most notably, the original one is in Roanoke, Texas, a small town just north of Fort Worth.
You will also find locations in Arlington, Burleson, Frisco, Garland, Carrollton, Granbury, Cedar Hill, and Sanger. We have visited the ones in Roanoke, Burleson, and Arlington, but I wouldn’t hesitate to eat at any of them.
While the menu varies slightly by location, the experience is pretty similar from place to place. So, pick a location and go eat at Babe’s!
I would describe the decor of Babe’s as a combination of a country general store and grandma’s house. Each location has its own interpretation of this country decor, but they all have that cozy, laid-back vibe to them.
The Burleson restaurant has little cottages around the edges of the restaurant with stuffed chickens scattered throughout. You will find the Arlington location leans more towards country gas station than land of the Munchkins.
Regardless of the differences, you will feel welcome and comfortable at all of these restaurants.
Meals at Babe’s will cost you around $14 per adult. This does not include drinks. While this may sound a little pricey for families, when you figure in the amount of food you get for the money, it is really a great value. We take home leftover meat every time we eat here.
If you have a child that is not much of an eater, you can easily let them eat off of an adult’s plate instead of ordering a meal for them. I do this with my son all the time. This is a great way to save some money and make the meal much more affordable for your family.
Another way to make this meal more affordable is to eat here at lunch, then you will probably be so full that you can skip dinner.
Babe’s Chicken Dinner House is a wonderful family-friendly restaurant chain with nine locations throughout the Dallas -Fort Worth metroplex. It offers Southern style comfort food at its best. The food is so good that you will eat way too much whether you want to or not!
If you only eat one meal in the Fort Worth area during your visit, make sure that meal is at Babe’s Chicken Dinner House. You will not regret it! It is the best value to go for hungry families!
