Babe’s Chicken Dinner House is not just a restaurant, it’s an experience. Therefore, it is one of the very best places to dine in the Fort Worth area for hungry families, big and small. If you are visiting Fort Worth and only have time for one meal, Babe’s should be at the top of your list. Babe’s is the definition of winner, winner, chicken dinner!
There are nine different Babe’s locations around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Most notably, the original one is in Roanoke, Texas, a small town just north of Fort Worth. You will also find locations in Arlington, Burleson, Frisco, Garland, Carrollton, Granbury, Cedar Hill, and Sanger. Of these, we have visited Roanoke, Burleson, and Arlington. While the menu varies slightly by location, the experience is pretty similar from place to place. So, pick a location and go eat at Babe’s!
No Menu at Babe’s
Babe’s Chicken Dinner House is a casual, family-friendly restaurant. They serve chicken and other Southern comfort delights family-style. The unique thing about Babe’s is that there is no menu. Instead, everyone gets their choice of meat with the standard collection of side dishes. As you might imagine, chicken is the star of the show. At the original Babe’s location, there are only two meat choices: fried chicken and chicken fried steak. The Burleson and Arlington locations, in contrast, offer 5-6 meat choices. The expanded choices include chicken strips, smoked chicken, and fried catfish. Your meal will also include salad, buttermilk biscuits, corn casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. Additionally, they offer a selection of pies and other Southern desserts.
The portion sizes are huge. Because of the family-style service, the meat comes out on platters. Consequently, this makes it easy for everyone at your table to share the different meat selections. So, I recommend each person at the table order a different meat. As a result, everyone you can all sample a wider variety of the meat options. Everything on the table, except the meat, is all-you-can-eat. Your waitress will refill the side dishes as many times as you would like. The large portion sizes and refillable side dishes makes this the perfect restaurant for hungry families and big eaters. Unfortunately, the only drawback to the service style is that the meat and biscuits are the only things you are allowed to take home in a doggy bag.
The Taste of Babe’s
All of the food at Babe’s is delicious! It tastes like eating Sunday lunch at your grandma’s kitchen table. This is comfort food at its finest. Babe’s is one of those places where you really need to go in starving because you will come out miserably full! I find it almost impossible to not eat too much when we go to Babe’s. It is just that good!
I would describe the decor of Babe’s as a combination of a country general store and grandma’s house. Each location has its own interpretation of this country decor and style, but they all have that cozy, laid-back vibe to them. The Burleson restaurant has little cottages around the edges of the restaurant with stuffed chickens scattered throughout. You will find the Arlington location leans more towards country gas station than land of the Munchkins. Regardless of the differences, you will feel welcome and comfortable at all of these restaurants.
Meals at Babe’s will cost you around $14 per adult. This does not include drinks. While this is a little pricey for families, when you figure in the amount of food you get for the money, it is a more than reasonable price. We take home leftover meat every time we eat here. Also, if you have a child that is not much of an eater, you can easily let them eat off of an adult’s plate instead of ordering a meal for them. I do this with my son all the time. This is a great way to save some money and make the meal much more reasonably priced for our family. Plus, if you eat here at lunch, you may be so full that you can skip dinner.
Babe’s Chicken Dinner House is a wonderful family-friendly restaurant chain with nine locations throughout the Dallas -Fort Worth metroplex. It is Southern style comfort food at its best. The food is so good that you will eat way too much whether you want to or not! If you only eat one meal in the Fort Worth area during your visit, make sure that meal is at Babe’s Chicken Dinner House. You will not regret it! It is the place to go for hungry families!
