We ate at all of these places multiple times during the time we lived in American Samoa. We will continue to go back to them whenever we go back to the island for visits.
#1: DDW Cafe
The absolute best restaurant in American Samoa for both food and views is DDW Cafe. It is located in the harbor on Utelei Beach, just steps from the water’s edge.
From the patio and the tables near the windows, you will have fantastic views of the harbor and the mountains across the way. And if you’re lucky, you may even see a sea turtle poke its head up for a quick breath.
Despite its name, which stands for Don’t Drink the Water, DDW serves yummy food for breakfast and lunch. You can’t go wrong with the seafood omelet or breakfast burrito in the mornings. And for lunch, the tuna sandwich and chicken bomb sandwich are both excellent choices.
#2: Sadie Thompson Inn
Next on our list of the best restaurants in American Samoa is Sadie’s Restaurant at the Sadie Thompson Inn. While this one is also located in the harbor, it doesn’t have the wonderful views that DDW has.
But, what Sadie Thompson Inn lacks in views it more than makes up for in taste. This is the only real “fancy” restaurant on the island, even though you are welcome to come in your shorts.
This is the perfect choice for a date night or to celebrate a special occasion.
Everything on the menu is scrumptious. But, if you are looking for steak, then you will love Sadie Thompson Inn. They have the best steaks on the island.
#3: Koko Bean Cafe
Koko Bean is another restaurant that makes this list simply because of the quality of the food on the menu. You will find it in Nuu’uli in the Laufou Shopping Center.
Like Sadie’s Restaurant, Koko Bean has no views, but their food is amazing. The mashed potatoes at Koko Bean are better than my grandmother’s! I could eat a whole plate of them!
The barbeque chicken, fried chicken, and honey walnut shrimp are also all great choices. And Koko Bean has some great sushi if that is more your style.
#4: Goat Island Cafe
Next is Goat Island Cafe at the Sadie’s By the Sea hotel. You will find it just down the road from DDW. And like DDW, Goat Island has phenomenal views of the harbor.
Goat Island actually has more tables on the patio than they do inside. We love sitting in the traditional fale that sits between the patio and the water’s edge.
While the food at Goat Island is good, it is not as delicious as some of the other restaurants that are higher on this list. But, it is one of those places that is perfect for relaxing over drinks and some munchies while you gaze out at the ocean waves.

This hotel is a sister property to Sadie Thompson Inn. However, Goat Island is a cheaper and more family friendly restaurant than Sadie’s.
#5: Henry’s Diner
The last place on our list of best restaurants in American Samoa is Henry’s Diner. This tiny restaurant is located in Coconut Point and serves breakfast and lunch.
Henry’s serves classic American and Samoan dishes. My favorite breakfast dish is the bacon bagel sandwich.
For lunch, you will find sandwiches, burgers, burritos and chili cheese fries. They also have a variety of specialty smoothies and coffees.
Conclusion
Sometimes finding good restaurants while you are traveling can be a challenge. But, this list of the best restaurants in American Samoa will ensure that you have both great food and fabulous views during your tropical vacation to the South Pacific.
