Usually the best restaurants in any city are little hole-in-the-wall places that most people completely miss. We recently discovered one such hidden gem in Tucson, Arizona. And it was delicious! Keep reading to find out why you must try the Drunken Chicken!

What is the Drunken Chicken?
The Drunken Chicken is a little dive of a restaurant tucked away in the middle of the block on Tucson’s popular 4th Avenue. The front of the restaurant is so unassuming, we almost drove past it, even though we were looking for it!
Once you’re inside this award-winning, but very laid back place, you can marvel at what they do best: fried chicken, waffles, and craft beer.
This place may be hard to find at first, but the food is definitely worth the effort!

The Food
At the Drunken Chicken, you can get chicken in its most basic forms: a chicken sandwich, chicken strips, and chicken and waffles. You won’t be disappointed in any of these.
However, if you are looking for something a little more adventurous, they’ve got you covered! For instance, you could order the Bird Dog. It has a chicken strip on a hoagie roll with gravy, bacon, and cheddar cheese. Or, try The Beast. It is chicken wrapped in bacon and then covered with waffle batter and deep fried!
They also serve wings, mac and cheese, and a variety of burgers. For sides, you can choose from fries, onion rings, mashed potatoes, or a waffle.
I love chicken and waffles! It’s one of my favorite dishes. And the ones at Drunken Chicken rank up there as some of the best I’ve ever had!
My husband had the wings. While he enjoyed them, he thought my chicken and waffles were better!

To complement your meal, you can choose from a selection of sauces, ranging from sweet syrups to tangy ranch and savory buffalo sauce.
They also have a large list of craft beers available to round out your meal.
While the Drunken Chicken doesn’t have a separate kids’ menu, there are several options on their menu that are perfect for children. These include the chicken strips and chicken nuggets.
Not only is the food here tasty, it’s also super fresh. There is nothing frozen in this kitchen! They marinate the chicken for 24 hours in their special marinade. Then they bread it by hand. They also make all of their fries, onion rings, coleslaw, and more in house daily.
Everything on the menu is good, fresh, and straightforward. It is the type of food that you want to eat when you are on vacation and want to splurge. This is comfort food at its best!

The Vibe and Decor
The Drunken Chicken is small with a few tables on the inside and a few more out in front on the sidewalk. There is also seating at the bar. So, if it’s busy, you may have to wait a bit.
The decor is no frills. It’s clear that the food is the important thing in this restaurant. But the vibe here is super laid back. So, you’ll feel right at home here whether you are hanging out with old friends or on a family vacation with your kids.
This is the type of place where you don’t have to worry about your children spilling their drinks or getting syrup on the table.

Hours and Prices
Drunken Chicken is open seven days a week from 10 am until 10 pm.
Everything on the menu ranges in price from $3-12. This is another reason to eat here with your family. Everyone can fill their bellies without emptying your wallet.

Conclusion
We love eating at the Drunken Chicken! This hole-in-the-wall place is one of the best restaurants in Tucson, Arizona. While it doesn’t scream family-friendly, it is an excellent choice for kids. It’s delicious and affordable. It also has straightforward dishes that your kids will love.
There are a lot of great places to eat at in Tucson, but Drunken Chicken is one of the top ones for us. We can’t wait to go back! I highly recommend checking it out on your next family trip to Tucson!
