Do you struggle to get your kids to put down their phones, even during dinner? Are you looking for ways to connect with your kids while on vacation? If your travels take you to Williamsburg, Virginia, then Food for Thought is the perfect solution! Keep reading to find out why you will love the food and the experience!

The Theme of Food for Thought
This restaurant has one of the most unique themes of any restaurant I have ever seen or heard about. The entire restaurant is themed around the great thinkers and philosophers of the world. This, of course, is where the restaurant gets its name.
The motto of the restaurant is “Eat, drink, think.” All around the inside of this place, you will see quotes from super smart people, such as Albert Einstein, Thomas Jefferson, and Plato. You will also see images of these great men and women.
To really drive the theme home and add some fun to it, you will find conversation cards on all of the tables. These can be handy in giving you something to break the ice with your kids during your dinner. If they seem resistant about taking part, have your kids pick out a card to discuss.
After all of the cheesy themed restaurants out there these days, it’s nice to find one that highlights intelligence, conversation, and thinking.

The Food at Food for Thought
One reason why Food for Thought is such a great dinner option for families is that the menu is very eclectic. This guarantees that everyone in your family will find something to love about dining here!
Another thing I love about their menu is that they are always keeping it fresh by rotating dishes on and off of it. So, each time you go, you can look forward to some new options to try. Additionally, they have gluten free and allergen free options to choose from.
The appetizers include everything from shrimp and mussels to chicken strips, ribs, and hummus. They also feature a selection of soups and salads for those who want something a little lighter to eat.
For entrees, you can choose from classic American dishes, such as pot roast and meatloaf, or heartier meals like steak or ribs. Prefer chicken? Choose from cilantro lime chicken, their version of pad thai, or a pistachio and parmesan crusted chicken cutlet.
If someone in your family loves seafood, they have you covered there too. Their seafood options include crab cakes, salmon, and shrimp and grits. You can also choose one of their burgers, sandwiches, or vegetarian options.
For the kids, their kids’ menu has much more than the run of the mill options. Just ask for the kids menu when you are seated!

For dessert, they offer a bread pudding, a flourless chocolate cake, a raspberry hazelnut torte, a selection of sorbets, a cream brulee, and hot apple nachos.
They also have daily specials of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, so be sure to check those out before ordering!

We ate dinner at Food for Thought the first night we were in Williamsburg. My husband had the salmon and thought it was amazing. I went with the pot roast and was very happy with it! My son opted for the giant shells and marinara off of the kids menu. He thought it was excellent.
We then split the apple nachos. They were fabulous! So yummy! While everything was delicious, the apple nachos were the star of the meal for us.

Location, Prices, and Hours
Food for Thought is located at 1647 Richmond Road in the heart of Williamsburg, Virginia.
This is one of the busier streets away from Colonial Williamsburg, so it gives you a chance to step back into modern times after spending the day in the 1700’s. It is only about 2 miles from Colonial Williamsburg, so it’s a quick trip to get some food after a long day.
They are open six days a week, with Tuesdays being the only day they are closed. On Fridays and Saturdays, they are open from 11:30 am until 8:30 pm. The other days of the week, they are open from 11:30 am until 8:00 pm.
I would recommend getting there early, especially on weekends as it does get busy.
The prices at Food for Thought range from $6 for a bowl of soup to $35 for the steak and crab cakes combo. Most of the entrees and sandwiches fall in the $15-25 range. The desserts are all $10 and under.

Conclusion
My family loved eating at Food for Thought during our trip to Williamsburg, Virginia. My son asked if we could go back the next night. The food is delicious and the theme is fun and unique. It is a great place to encourage your kids to put down their phones and engage with the family. I highly recommend eating here during your trip to Williamsburg!
