Planning a trip to Nashville, Tennessee for your family? Looking for some fun, off-the-beaten-path things to do while you are there? Then look no further than the Lane Motor Museum! It is the best museum you’ve never heard of in Nashville!
What is the Lane Motor Museum?
Lane Motor Museum is a small museum that showcases approximately 150 of the most unique cars and motorcycles you have ever seen. It is the largest collection of European cars in the United States.
Their cars and motorcycles range in age from the early 1900’s up to modern times. Many of them are custom or concept cars, meaning they were never mass produced. I have never seen so many unusual looking vehicles in one place!
This museum includes microcars, amphibious vehicles, a few aircraft, some early bicycles and motorcycles, a few ice sleds, and even some military vehicles. Additionally, they have a collection of three-wheeled vehicles!
One thing that makes this museum truly special is that they are constantly working to make sure that all of their vehicles on display are in working order!
You can see a detailed list of all of the vehicles on display at the museum on their website.
How long will it take to explore the museum?
The Lane Motor Museum is a very small museum. The cars they have on display are all located in one large room of a warehouse, plus a few of them on display in the adjacent parking garage.
Because it is such a small place, it will not take you long at all to explore everything they have to offer. Even if you take your time, read every plaque, and examine every car in detail, you can see it all in two hours or less.
This is perfect because it makes it a great time filler in between other attractions you have planned in Nashville. You don’t have to devote an entire day or even an entire afternoon to it.
Alternatively, the Lane Motor Museum is a perfect last minute substitution if you have outdoor plans that get canceled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Where is the Lane Motor Museum located?
The Lane Motor Museum is located at 702 Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville, Tennessee. The museum is about a ten minute drive from downtown Nashville. You will need either a car or to get a ride share to get there during your time in Nashville.
How much does it cost to visit the museum?
One of the best things about visiting this museum is that it is pretty affordable, especially compared to most of the things to do in Nashville.
Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, and $3 for children ages 6-17. Kids ages 5 and under get in for free.
When is the museum open?
The Lane Motor Museum is open on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 am until 5 pm. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Each day at 11 am, they give a vehicle demonstration. These demonstrations are free with your museum admission.
Additionally, the museum closes on the following holidays each year: New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Will your family enjoy it?
If you have members of your family that are really into cars, then you have to visit this museum during your time in Nashville. They will be in heaven here!
If you have little ones with you, they will love playing in the museum’s dedicated play area that is right in the middle of the museum! This area is full of toy cars that they can ride on.
History buffs will also enjoy this museum because they can see the history of the automotive industry right before their eyes as they walk through this collection. They can observe how politics, technology, and even day to day life in various places in the world impacted the design and function of the various cars on display.
Because this little museum provides such a unique experience, your family will probably enjoy it, even if they are not big car enthusiasts. My family spent about an hour here during our trip to Nashville and had fun looking at all of the rare cars. And none of us are big car people!
The Lane Motor Museum is a fun little museum in Nashville, Tennessee that features unusual cars from around the world and throughout history. This is a great little excursion to add to your trip that won’t take up a lot of time or money. I recommend it!
