Planning a trip to Wellington, New Zealand? Looking for a restaurant that serves either American style soul food or Mexican food? Want a fun and kid-friendly environment? Look no further than Mama Brown. This funky little eatery will meet all your needs when traveling to the land of the Kiwis. On our recent trip to the North Island, this was our favorite restaurant of the entire trip. Read on to see why you need to check it out for yourself!

Food
Mama Brown is an American and Mexican fusion restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For breakfast, which you can get all day long, they serve morning favorites such as waffles and breakfast burritos. During lunch and dinner, you can find delicious meals such as burgers, tacos, chicken & waffles, pulled pork sandwiches, ribs, and wings. The kids menu features chicken and fries, a cheeseburger, or waffles. Additionally, Mama Brown offers a wide selection of beers and milkshakes.

During our visit, I had the chicken & waffles. It was better than any chicken & waffles I can get in the United States! So delicious! The waffles were fluffy with the perfect amount of sweetness. The chicken was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Chris had the pulled pork sandwich. He thoroughly enjoyed this sandwich and said that it was the best pulled pork he had ever eaten. The pork was tender and flavorful. Our son, who is super picky, was impressed by his chicken and fries.

Location
Mama Brown is located in downtown Wellington at 250 Wakefield Street. It is a small side street, not too far from the famous Cuba Street. It is just a few blocks away from police headquarters. If you are staying in downtown Wellington, it is easily within walking distance for you.
Decor

The best way to describe the decor of Mama Brown is funky. The place is small and cozy with a cool vibe. The tables and chairs are mix matched. Some of the chairs are actually airplane seats. There are vintage looking posters and advertisements covering the walls. This restaurant sits at the intersection of dive bar and retro coffee house. It is relaxed and welcoming. And don’t worry: your kids will feel as comfortable here as you do.
Service
We found the service at Mama Brown to be excellent. Our server was attentive and efficient with getting us what we needed. He spoke to our son and treated him as if he was a customer too. As a mom, I appreciate a server who doesn’t just ignore my child while we are in a restaurant. He anticipated our needs and was quick to offer suggestions in helping us decide what to eat and drink.

Prices & Hours
When it comes to prices, Mama Brown is pretty reasonable compared to other eateries in New Zealand. Everything on the menu is less than $30 New Zealand dollars. The kids meals are $8 each.
Mama Brown is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Wednesdays through Fridays, it is open 11 am-11 pm. The restaurant is open on Saturdays from 9 am-11 pm. On Sunday, you can eat there from 9 am-9 pm.

Conclusion
Mama Brown is a family friendly restaurant located in downtown Wellington, New Zealand. The menu offers American and Mexican fusion with delicious options for adults and kids alike. In addition to the food, there is a large selection of beer and milkshakes in case you are looking to pop in for drinks and desserts instead of a meal. The small place has a funky vibe and makes you feel like you want to stay and hang out for a while. For more information, visit the Mama Brown website. We loved this restaurant and will definitely be back the next time we are in Wellington. I highly recommend stopping for a meal here on your trip to New Zealand.
