Are you planning a trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee? Looking for delicious places to eat that your family will love? Then look no further than Puckett’s Grocery! Keep reading to find out why it is one of the best places to eat in Chattanooga for families!
The Story Behind Puckett’s Grocery
Puckett’s Grocery actually started as a small town grocery store in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee in the 1950’s. Since the beginning, they have been focused on giving their customers delicious food with a huge helping of Southern hospitality.
Today, Puckett’s Grocery is more of a restaurant serving classic Southern comfort food and live music than it is a grocery store. Additionally, it has expanded to 7 locations throughout Tennessee and Alabama.
The Food at Puckett’s Grocery
The food here is, not only delicious, it is exactly what you would expect from a Southern barbeque joint. While lunch and dinner are the stars of the show, they also serve breakfast.
The breakfast menu includes classics, such as pancakes, eggs, omelets, French toast, and breakfast burritos. It also includes a skillet cinnamon roll and brisket hash! How yummy do those sound?!?!
For lunch and dinner, the featured dish is the “meat and 3” special. The daily meat selections include favorites, such as pork chops, chicken and dumplings, catfish, and fried chicken.
For sides, you can choose from mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, baked beans, collard greens, coleslaw, sweet potato fries, and much more.
Other dishes on the menu are smoked meatloaf, the BBQ platter, fried chicken, chicken fried steak, baby back ribs, shrimp and grits, and the piggy mac, which is mac and cheese inside a skillet topped with pulled pork.
They also serve burgers, sandwiches, and salads. And they have a dedicated kids’ menu.
For dessert, you can delight in a deep fried brownie sundae, cinnamon roll bread pudding, or a variety of cobblers.
The portions here are large, so you will definitely walk away with a full belly!
The food at Puckett’s is so good that the Nashville location was featured on Food Network’s Burgers, Brew & ‘Que!
I can tell you from personal experience, the food at the Chattanooga location is equally delicious! It is so good that my mouth is watering, just thinking about it!

The Vibe of the Restaurant
Upon stepping into the restaurant, you will instantly feel the cozy and laid-back attitude that you would think a Southern barbeque restaurant would have. There are wood tables and chairs, and dark colors. The whole place has a “lived in” feel to it.
The restaurant is decorated with a combination of country touches, such as wooden signs and boots, and grocery store elements, such as bottled sauces and other things for sale. Additionally, there is a stage in the middle of the dining area, where various musicians perform live at night on weekends.
The Locations and Operating Hours
There are actually 7 different locations of Puckett’s Grocery. You will find 6 of them in Tennessee: Chattanooga, Nashville, Columbia, Franklin, Pigeon Forge, and Murfreesboro. There is also one location in Cullman, Alabama.
The Chattanooga restaurant sits at 2 West Aquarium Way, right next door to the Tennessee Aquarium. This makes it a perfect place to go for lunch or dinner after a day exploring the aquarium with your kids. Alternatively, consider starting your day off with a large breakfast before heading to the aquarium.
The Chattanooga restaurant is open on Sundays through Thursdays from 7 am until 9 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, they are open from 7 am until 10 pm.
The restaurant has a dedicated parking lot right in front. However, if you go to the aquarium first and park in one of the nearby parking garages, you can easily walk over here for your meal before heading back to the car.
We ate lunch at Puckett’s Grocery one day after we went to the aquarium. Our server was super friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back the next time we are near one in Tennessee.
My husband had the barbeque platter. My son went with the piggy mac, while I had a chicken sandwich. We all loved our food. It was so good!
You can’t go wrong by eating at Puckett’s Grocery! I highly recommend it. It is, by far, one of the best places to eat in Chattanooga! I know you (and your kids) will love it!
