When you think of Mexican food, Oklahoma City is probably not the first city that you think of. But, a little place in the middle of the city may just change your mind. Ted’s Cafe Escondido in Oklahoma City is actually one of several locations they have throughout Oklahoma and Kansas City. We ate here during a trip to Oklahoma City with my extended family. Here is everything you need to know before trying Ted’s Cafe Escondido yourself.
When we got to the restaurant, we found the parking lot overflowing and a wait to be seated, even though it was only about 6:15. I took this to be a good sign because usually a long wait means delicious food. And I am happy to say that Ted’s did not disappoint.

Location
There are actually several locations throughout Oklahoma. You can find a Ted’s Cafe Escondido in Lawton, Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Norman, Del City, and Edmond. There are also three locations in Oklahoma City and three more in Kansas City.
We ate at the North OKC location. It was pretty easy to find, even though we were not familiar with the area.
While there is a dedicated parking lot, it is not huge and was filled to the brim when we arrived. Luckily, there was a strip mall across the street that was closed. It is used for overflow parking for the restaurant after hours.

Food
The food at Ted’s Cafe Escondido is delicious. It is simple and straightforward Tex-Mex food.
They started us off with chips, salsa, queso, and warm flour tortillas. While chips and salsa are pretty standard complimentary offerings at Mexican food restaurants, it is not often that you are given free tortillas. And this is the first time I have ever seen a restaurant provide free queso, which was really good by the way.
Ted’s offers a variety of standard Mexican dishes including quesadillas, tacos, enchiladas, and fajitas. Chris had the fajita salad. My mom and I got the mini quesadillas and nachos, and my dad got enchiladas. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals.
There wasn’t a lot of fancy flair to the food. It was just plain good.
At the end of our meal, our server brought out complimentary sopapillas! Another surprise! Who doesn’t like free appetizers and free dessert?!?! The sopapillas were warm with just the right amount of sweetness.
It definitely was a great way to top off a fabulous meal.

Decor
I really liked the decor in Ted’s Cafe Escondido.
There were fabric awnings hanging over most of the tables with colorful chandeliers. The curtains also had brightly colored stripes.
Unlike a lot of Mexican restaurants, it was very brightly lit in Ted’s. I like this because you could not only see what you were eating but could easily see the people across the table.
Instead of being garish, the lighting was done in such a way that it gave the whole restaurant a festive feel. It felt like you were at a party instead of eating an intimate date night meal.
Since we were with a large group of family and friends, this was perfect for us! This is definitely a place where you can feel comfortable taking your kids and not worrying about them disturbing the people around you.

Cost
I thought the prices at Ted’s were very reasonable. Our bill for 7 of us, with Chris drinking two beers, was only $71. I thought this was very affordable, especially considering the free appetizers and sopapillas.
This is a great place for a night out with the family if you are in the Oklahoma City area.

Conclusion
Ted’s Cafe Escondido is a chain of family-friendly Tex-Mex restaurants in Oklahoma and Kansas. The place is bright, warm, and filled with happy diners. Ted’s creates the feeling of a party where you are surrounded by all of your favorite friends and family. The service is great. The food is wonderful and reasonably priced, especially when you take into account the free chips, salsa, queso, tortillas, and sopapillas.
It is a great place to go with a large group of people or just your immediate family. And don’t worry about taking the kids here. This is the perfect place to take them out to eat too. I highly recommend Ted’s Cafe Escondido on your family trip to the Oklahoma City area or if you find yourself near one of the other locations. I hope you enjoyed this review of Ted’s Cafe Escondido.
