Holidays are a great time to get together with family and participate in traditional festivities. But let’s face it: they can be stressful! They are also a lot of work. So, this year, why not skip the holidays and travel instead?
Here are 5 reasons why this is a great way to celebrate the season. Try it and see if it’s not perfect for your family!

Reason #1: Trade in the work to have more fun!
Celebrating the holidays by having big family gatherings takes a lot of work.
Between the cooking, cleaning, shopping, and decorating, the to-do list can seem endless. The result is that you end up too stressed out and exhausted to even enjoy it.
So, why not trade it all in for some fun?
If you skip the holidays to take a family trip, you can spend less time working and more time relaxing.
Leave the cooking to restaurants. Stay in a hotel so you won’t need to clean your house.
Traveling can eliminate many of the chores on your list and free you up to have more fun with your family.

Reason #2: Avoid the drama.
Unfortunately, in many families, holiday celebrations come with a extra large side of drama. Sometimes, this drama reveals itself through actual fights, while other times it presents itself as an undercurrent of tension and hurt feelings.
Family drama isn’t inevitable, however. To avoid it, skip the holidays and travel instead! Just be sure to leave anyone you have conflicts with at home.
While some of your relatives may not understand or accept your choice, you don’t have to be prisoner to the family dynamics. Choosing happiness over fighting can sometimes be the best way to spend the season.
Reason #3: Create memories through shared experiences.
Celebrating the holidays is all about creating memories and being with the ones we love. You don’t have to be at home to do this. You can create these memories just as easily on the ski slopes or the beach as you can in your living room.
Instead of spending your time cooking and cleaning, pack up the family and go enjoy the world! You may find that these holiday memories you create are even more special because of the experiences you share with your family.

Reason #4: Take advantage of school breaks.
If you have kids, you know it’s hard to travel when school is in session. But that doesn’t mean you are limited to taking trips only in the summer. Take advantage of those holiday breaks from school to travel.
Many schools are out the entire week of Thanksgiving. This is the perfect time to get away. Many years, we leave the Friday before Thanksgiving and take a week long road trip because my son is out of school that week.
And while Thanksgiving is one of the busiest times of the year for travel, many tourist destinations are not crowded that week. So, you may be able to snag some great deals and enjoy low crowds by skipping the holidays.
Reason #5: Focus on family.
Maybe the best reason to skip the holidays and travel instead is to focus on your family. While spending time with family is the whole point behind celebrating the holidays, we sometimes lose that focus.
Too many times, we get caught up in the frenzy of the season that we forget the reason why we do it. But, by refusing to participate in the hustle and bustle, we can put that energy into enjoying quality time with our loved ones.
Taking a family trip allows us to regain this focus.

Conclusion
Most people are so stressed out by the endless holiday to-do lists and unreasonable expectations of perfection that they can’t enjoy the this special time of the year.
But, if you skip the holidays, you can avoid all the work, stress, and drama that comes with the season. By traveling, you can have fun, create memories, and focus on your family instead.
