Disney World is a magical place. It has a way of bringing out the kid in all of us. While everyone at Disney World gets to experience the magic, some lucky guests get extra magic during their trips. To help you become one of these lucky few, here are 6 tips for getting extra magic at Disney World.
What exactly is extra Disney magic? It can range from being chosen to participate in one of the shows to getting extra attention from a character during a meet and greet. We have been fortunate on several of our trips to be the recipients of some of this extra magic. And it makes your trip so much more special!

#1: Right Place, Right Time
The biggest factor in getting extra magic is being in the right place at the right time. Usually, you need luck on your side for this.
You never know when a Cast Member will be walking through a crowd looking for someone to do something special or when a character will be in the mood to have a little fun.
The point in telling you this is so you set realistic expectations about your trip for you and your family. Don’t go into your trip expecting to get extra magic because sometimes it just doesn’t happen. We have had several trips with no special treatment. And if this happens, it’s ok. You can still have a great trip.
The focus of your trip should be to have fun with your family. And if you get picked for something special, then it is a bonus.

#2: Be Early
While you need some luck to get picked for extra magic, you can improve your odds by being early. This is especially true at the beginning of the day.
Many stores and restaurants throughout Walt Disney World have little opening ceremonies. A lot of times, they will pick a guest or family to help them with these ceremonies. The people who are there early are the ones who get chosen.
In the past, the Magic Kingdom had a welcome show to open the park. Every morning, they picked a Family of the Day to participate in this show. In November 2015, we were chosen to be the Family of the Day. It was the most magical experience we have ever had! We were at the Magic Kingdom an hour before it opened on that particular day.
Later that same day, we ate an early lunch at Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale and Inn. Our son was chosen to be the Deputy of the Day and got to help open the restaurant. We were one of only a few families at the restaurant when they chose him to participate.

#3: Be Happy
Disney has a habit of rewarding happy people with special things. While it may sound silly, it is true. So, if your family is arguing or having a bad day, chances are that you won’t be getting anything extra.
The happier you are with your day and your trip, the more likely it is that you will receive some extra magic.
Likewise, Cast Members typically don’t choose people who expect to be picked or who feel that they are entitled to the special attention.
#4: Be Willing to Change Your Plans
If you have planned your trip out well, then you probably have a plan for what you are doing next. Many times, a Cast Member will approach and ask if you have plans for the next little bit of time. Regardless of whether you do or not, tell them no. They usually ask this question before asking you to participate in something special.
I can guarantee you that whatever they have picked you to do will be way more awesome than whatever you were planning to do.
So, unless you are headed to an appointment at Bibbity Bobbity Boutique or to eat at Cinderella Royal Table, you should throw your plans out the window and go with it! You will be glad you did!

#5: Always Say Yes
Another common question that Cast Members ask when they are looking for guests to take part in something special is “Would you like to come with me?” If you are asked this question or some variation of it, you should always say yes! This is because they have chosen you for something magical.
Now, this special thing could be a soft opening of a new ride or it could be a special meet and greet with a character or something else.
The Cast Members don’t always tell you what you will be doing when they choose you. They sometimes simply ask you to follow them. But, this is always a good thing when they ask.
#6: Don’t Be In a Hurry
Sometimes, it’s hard, but try not to be in too big of a hurry when going from place to place in the parks. Yes, you can save some time by walking quickly from point A to point B. But, you have to strike a balance between rushing to the next thing and enjoying the moment.
Sometimes, you need to hurry, while other times you should slow down and take it all in. Typically, Cast Members look for people who are taking things slower.
So, taking time during your trip to slow down a little can be a very good thing for you and your family.

Conclusion
Disney World is the most magical place I have ever been. Every time we go, I have a great time, but it’s even more fun when you get picked for some extra magic. When you and your family get chosen for special moments, it is just the icing on the cake.
While most of the time, you have to be lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, there are a few things you can do to improve your odds of getting some of that extra magic. I hope these tips for getting extra magic at Disney World help you on your next trip.
