Disney World is a magical place. It is probably the most magical place on the face of the Earth. It has a way of bringing out the kid in everyone. It’s hard to not be happy at Disney World. While everyone who visits Disney World gets to experience the magic on a daily basis, there are opportunities throughout all of the parks for lucky guests to get some extra magic. This extra magic can range from being chosen to participate in one of the shows to getting extra attention from a character during a meet and greet. We have been fortunate on several of our trips to be the recipients of some of this extra magic. This article will give you some tips for getting extra magic at Disney World.
Right Place, Right Time
The biggest factor in getting extra magic is being in the right place at the right time. Most of the time, you need luck on your side for this. You never know when a Cast Member will be walking through a crowd looking for someone to do something special or when a character will be in the mood to have a little fun. The point in telling you this is so you set realistic expectations about your trip for you and your family. Don’t go into your trip expecting to get extra magic because sometimes it just doesn’t happen. We have had several trips with no special treatment. The focus of your trip should be to have fun with your family. And if you get picked for something special, then it will be a bonus.
While you will need luck to get picked for extra magic, you can improve your odds of being chosen by being early. This is especially true at the beginning of the day. Many stores and restaurants throughout Walt Disney World have little opening ceremonies. Many times, they will pick a guest or family to help them with these ceremonies. The people who are there early are the ones who are chosen for these things.
Up until recently, the Magic Kingdom had an opening show each morning to open the park. Every morning, they picked a Family of the Day to participate in this show. In November 2015, we were chosen one day to be the Family of the Day. It was the most magical experience we have ever had! We were at the park an hour before the park opened on that particular day. On that same day, we ate an early lunch at Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale and Inn. Boston was chosen to be their Deputy of the Day and got to help open the restaurant. We were one of only a few families in the restaurant when they chose him to participate.
Disney has a habit of rewarding happy people with special things. While it may sound silly, it is true. So, if your family is arguing or having a bad day, chances are that you won’t be getting anything extra. The happier you are with your day and your trip, the more likely it is that you will receive some extra magic. Likewise, Cast Members typically don’t choose people who appear to be expecting to be picked or who feel that they are entitled to special attention.
Be Willing to Change Your Plans
If you have planned your trip out well, then you will probably have a plan of some sort that you are following. Many times, you will be approached by a Cast Member who will ask if you have any plans for the next bit of time. Regardless of whether you do or not, you should tell them no. They will usually ask you this question before asking you to participate in something special. I can guarantee you that if you are asked whether you have plans by a Cast Member, whatever they have picked you to do will be way more awesome than whatever you were planning to do. So, unless you are headed to an appointment at Bibbity Bobbity Boutique or eat at Cinderella Royal Table, you should throw your plans out the window and go with it! You will be glad you did!
Always Say Yes
Another common question that Cast Members ask when they are looking for guests to take part in something special is “Would you like to come with me?” If you are asked this question or some variation of it, you should always say yes! This is because they have chosen you for something magical. Now, this special thing could be a soft opening of a new ride or show or it could be a special meet and greet with a character or something else. The Cast Members don’t always tell you what you will be doing when they choose you. They sometimes simply ask you to follow them. But, this is always a good thing when they ask.
Don’t Be In a Hurry
It is hard when you are in the parks, but try not to be in too big of a hurry when going from place to place. Now, if you have read some of my other articles, you may have heard me say that you can save some time by walking quickly from point A to point B. I know this is contradictory advice. You have to strike a balance between the two. Sometimes, you need to hurry, while other times you should slow down and take it all in. Typically, the Cast Members look for people who are taking things slower. So, taking time during your trip to slow down a little bit can be a very good thing for you and your family.
Disney World is the most magical place I have ever been to. Every time I am there, I have a great time regardless of whether we get picked for extra magic. When you and your family get chosen for special moments, it is just the icing on the cake. While most of the time, you have to be lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, there are a few things you can do to improve your odds of getting some of that extra magic. This article gives you a few tips for getting picked for this extra magic at Disney World. I hope it helps you on your next trip. Good luck! Happy travels and have an extra magical day!
