Voodoo Doughnuts
Let’s start this comparison of Voodoo Doughnuts vs. Duck Donuts by looking for a moment at Voodoo Doughnuts.
Where they’re from and where to find them
Voodoo Doughnuts originated in Portland, Oregon in 2003. Now, they have 17 stores in six states. You can find them in Oregon, Colorado, Texas, Florida, California, and Washington.

The flavors
Voodoo Doughnuts has both doughnuts and cannolis. They make traditional doughnuts, such as apple fritters, plain cake doughnuts, and basic glazed doughnuts.
But, what they are most known for are their creative flavors. These include banana cream pie, bubble gum, peanut butter and jelly, an M&M covered doughnut, and more!
You can find the entire menu of flavors on Voodoo Doughnuts website.
The vibe
Everything about Voodoo Doughnuts is edgy and over-the-top. From the moment you walk in, you will know this isn’t your mama’s doughnut shop!
The color scheme is black and pink. But it does not feel sweet and girlie. Instead, these colors, combined with the skull logo and unexpected decor elements, have a rebellious vibe that you would expect from a rock ‘n roll club. All of it combines to give you a complete experience when you eat these doughnuts.

Duck Donuts
Now, it’s time to turn to the other side of this Voodoo Doughnuts vs. Duck Donuts comparison.
Where they’re from and where to find them
Duck Donuts started in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 2007. These days, you will find their 100+ stores in 24 states, plus Toronto and Puerto Rico.
You can find Duck Donuts in Texas, California, Arizona, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Arkansas, Kansas, Georgia, Florida, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

The flavors
Of course, Duck Donuts has a wide variety of unique donut flavors. But they also make breakfast sandwiches with their donuts. Additionally, they have milkshakes and ice cream sundaes that start with a donut base! How crazy is that?!?!?
When it comes to the donut flavors, they have three main categories: seasonal favorites, fan favorites, and made-to-order donuts.
The seasonal donuts, obviously, change according to the seasons. At Christmas, they have flavors such as peppermint, gingerbread, and eggnog. For summer, this menu features flavors such as blueberry lemonade, pina colada, and lemon raspberry.
The fan favorites include flavors such as maple bacon, cookies and cream, cinnamon bun, French toast, s’mores, and chocolate covered strawberry.
Lastly, they have made-to-order donuts. This means you can customize your own donuts! All of their donuts are a vanilla cake donut base. After that, you can choose your coating, topping, and drizzle. They have 4-8 choices in each of these categories.
You can see the entire menu and find all of their locations on their website.

The vibe
Where Voodoo Doughnuts has an edgy vibe to its shop interiors, Duck Donuts is all about the donuts. They really don’t have any decorating in their shops. Instead, they just let the donuts shine.
They do, however, have a very cute little cartoon duck logo that has a very patriotic feel to it. It also makes the shop feel very family friendly.

Voodoo Doughnuts vs. Duck Donuts
So, now that you have a little overview on both donut shops, let’s do a comparison to see which one is best.
Now, both of these shops have unique flavors that are very delicious. So, when it comes to flavors, it is a draw.
While both donut shops make fresh donuts every day, Duck Donuts make their donuts when you order them. They are so fresh that they are still warm when you get them.
Voodoo, on the other hand, makes large batches of their donuts each morning so they are ready when you order them.
Duck Donuts gets the nod when it comes to freshness.
Next in the Voodoo Doughnuts vs. Duck Donuts battle is the size of the donuts. This one goes to Voodoo Doughnuts. Their donuts are huge! Some of them are the size of my face! I have a hard time finishing one of them because they are so big. Duck Donuts, meanwhile, have normal sized donuts.
The next factor in this battle of the donuts is price. At Duck Donuts, you can get a single donut for $2.20 and a dozen for $19.50. Voodoo Doughnuts charges $1 for a basic donut, $4.50-5.50 for a fancy gourmet one, and between $19-25 for a whole dozen. So, this one is a tie.
When looking at the feel of the donut shops, Voodoo Doughnuts is the clear winner. They have created a whole experience from the color of the walls to the boxes of doughnuts. In contrast, the inside of Duck Donuts shops looks like an afterthought.
Ultimately, which one you prefer is a personal choice. I love Duck Donuts, but my husband thought Voodoo Doughnuts was better. It really depends on which of these above elements means the most to you.
I highly recommend trying both of these excellent shops so you can decide for yourself which one is better!

Conclusion
Voodoo Doughnuts and Duck Donuts are two of the best, trendiest, and most creative donut shops in America. They are both worthy of all the hype they get. In the battle of Voodoo Doughnuts vs. Duck Donuts, you can’t go wrong with whichever one you choose!
