These days, there are doughnut shops and then there are gourmet doughnut shops that are taking doughnuts to a whole new level. And one of the most popular gourmet doughnut shops sweeping the country is Voodoo Doughnuts. Keep reading to find out if you will love these over the top doughnuts?

How it all began
Voodoo Doughnuts first opened in 2003 in Portland, Oregon after its founders realized that there was no doughnut shop in downtown Portland. From the beginning, they offered both traditional and out-of-the-box doughnut flavors.
Initially, the doughnut shop was also home to a wide variety of unconventional events, including weddings, concerts, and even Swahili lessons. Within a month, the bold shop was being featured in the national media. This led to an explosion of popularity.
The company opened a second location in 2008. Today, there are 17 stores in six different states.
This unique doughnut shop still marches to the beat of its own drum. And it continues to grow in popularity. Most stores have people lining up out the doors and around the block to grab some of these adventurous doughnuts.

What makes Voodoo Doughnuts so special?
The company motto is “Good things come in pink boxes.” And this is true, especially when those pink boxes are full of yummy doughnuts! In addition to the pink and black color scheme of the shops, there are 2 things that really set Voodoo Doughnuts apart from the competition: the flavors and the size of the doughnuts.

The flavors
The biggest thing that sets Voodoo Doughnuts apart from most other doughnut shops is the uncommon flavor combinations. You will see doughnuts here that you didn’t even know existed!
Additionally, the company also offers 25 different vegan doughnut flavors!
Their menu includes such wild concoctions as maple bacon, banana cream pie, peanut butter and jelly, a chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting and coconut flakes, and a cake donut with vanilla frosting and M&M’s on top.
And, let me tell you: these doughnuts are as delicious as they sound! They are sweet, soft, and perfectly balanced.
You can see the full menu of flavors on their website.

The size of the doughnuts
The other thing that makes the doughnuts at Voodoo Doughnuts so special is the size of them. These things are huge!! They are the size of your whole hand or bigger!
When we visited, my husband and I both got two different donuts. And neither one of us was able to finish them. We really should have only got one each and shared. I have never seen donuts so big in my life!

Where can you find Voodoo Doughnuts?
As I said above, there are currently 17 Voodoo Doughnut locations in 6 states with two more locations (and one new state) coming soon. The six lucky states are: Oregon, Colorado, Texas, California, Florida, and Washington.
Currently, you can find Voodoo Doughnuts in the following cities:

The prices and hours
Each of the Voodoo Doughnut stores have their own hours of operation. The stores are all open seven days per week.
Most of the stores open at 6:00 am with a couple opening at 5:00 am. A few of the stores are even open 24 hours per day! The Eugene, OR store is the straggler of the bunch. It doesn’t open until 7:00 am each day.
The stores are all open until at least 10:00 pm each night, with most of them open until midnight or after!
The doughnuts range in price, depending on the ingredients and design. They start at $1.00 for a basic variety. The fancier ones will cost you between $4.50-5.50 a piece. A dozen ranges from $19 to $25.

Conclusion
Voodoo Doughnuts is a super popular gourmet doughnut shop that is bold, bright, and over-the-top in everything they do from the pink and black decor to the outrageously creative and ridiculously delicious flavors.
If you find yourself near one of their 17 stores, I highly recommend stopping in and giving them a try. I think you will love them!
